Spring is finally here! Which means Summer is right around the corner and time to plan Summer Camps and Workshops. Most Summer Camps target our younger dancers but is important not to forget about our Preteen and Teens. Here are some ideas for the older age group that are different than your technique courses.
Choreography: Teaching choreography and how to choreograph can be a great and important course for young dancers.
Assistant Training: The summer is a great time to train your older dancers who are interested in teaching and becoming assistants.
Dance History: Dance history is an important part of dance training that we often don't have time for. Offering a dance history course can be very beneficial for your dancers.
Audition Prep: For dancers who will be auditioning for programs or professional opportunities a workshop preparing them for the audition process is instramental in their success. This course can also benefit dancers who choose other paths as they take skills in professionalism and presentation with them in whatever they do.
Strength and Flexibility: Cross training in the summer is a good idea for all young athletes, dancers included. Change up your strength and flexibility training.
Yoga: Yoga and pilates can help with flexibility but also train the mind and teach good breathing techniques.
Introduce New Cultural Styles: A summer workshop in a style such as Bollywood, Hawaiian, African, or Folk can provide dancers with new experiences to apply their technique and exposure to new cultures.
Critiques: A workshop learning how to give and take critiques can provide dancers the with skills to learn and grow.
I love using the summer for all the things I want to do but never have time. What are your ideas?
